Description

About Us
Rare Days is a multi-disciplinary digital product studio obsessed with helping creators and community-led organizations build lasting legacies. Since 2020, we’ve designed and built products at the intersection of content, community, and commerce — empowering creators and content-led businesses to turn their passion into sustainable platforms.

Our clients range from world-renowned creators like Esther Perel, Colin & Samir, and Sophia Amoruso to global brands like Airbnb and Notion. We specialize in membership platforms, creator tools, and community-driven products — and our edge comes from knowing these audiences as well as we know product design.

We’re a distributed team, based in Canada, and are open to candidates located within 4 hours of the PST time zone. Preference will be given to Canadian applicants.

About the Role
The Engineering Director at Rare Days is a strategic leader responsible for the overall engineering health, strategy, and growth of our partnership with a major global technology partner. This role is ideal for a leader experienced in navigating large, complex client organizations with multiple product-led teams. You will act as the key engineering partner to this client, ensuring all projects are delivered to the highest standard while proactively identifying opportunities to deepen our collaboration.

As the leader of this key account, you will maintain a comprehensive overview of all engineering work-streams. You will build strong, trusted relationships with various stakeholders at the client, aligning our technical execution with their business objectives. You will also work closely with Rare Days' leadership to manage resources, guide team growth, and support the sales process to expand our footprint within the account. This position requires a unique blend of technical acumen, strategic thinking, client management, and people leadership.

  • Team Leadership & Mentorship: Lead and inspire the engineering teams assigned to this key account, providing guidance, mentorship, and support to ensure high performance, technical quality, and team health.
  • Sales & Business Development: Act as the key engineering partner in the sales process for this key account. Identify opportunities for growth, build business cases for new projects, and support the creation of proposals and Statements of Work (SOWs).
  • Resource Planning & Growth: Partner with Rare Days' leadership to manage resource allocation for this key account. Forecast future needs based on the client's roadmap and drive the hiring strategy to build out the necessary teams.

  • Proven experience managing complex engineering projects or accounts within large, product-led organizations (Big Tech experience is a major plus).
  • Exceptional stakeholder management and relationship-building skills, with the ability to navigate multi-layered client organizations and communicate effectively with diverse audiences.
  • Experience in a client-facing role with direct involvement in the sales process, including scoping new work, contributing to proposals, and growing account revenue. Direct sales engineering experience is a strong asset.
  • Proven expertise in both frontend and backend technologies with a solid understanding of full-stack development and modern architectural patterns.
  • Experienced in scoping, estimating, writing, reviewing, and negotiating statements of work (SOWs), project scopes, and vendor deliverables.
