About Us
Rare Days is a multi-disciplinary digital product studio obsessed with helping creators and community-led organizations build lasting legacies. Since 2020, we’ve designed and built products at the intersection of content, community, and commerce — empowering creators and content-led businesses to turn their passion into sustainable platforms.

Our clients range from world-renowned creators like Esther Perel, Colin & Samir, and Sophia Amoruso to global companies like Airbnb and Notion. We specialize in membership platforms, creator tools, and community-driven products — and our edge comes from knowing these audiences as well as we know product design.

We’re a distributed team, based in Canada, and are open to candidates located within 4 hours of PST time zone. Preference will be given to Canadian applicants.

About the Role
The VP of Engineering at Rare Days will be a strategic leader, guiding the engineering team with a balance of technical vision, operational management, and mentorship. This role is ideal for someone who can drive innovation, operationalize processes, and cultivate an environment where engineers feel empowered to create exceptional digital products. As a key member of the executive team, the VP of Engineering will work closely with cross-functional peers to align the engineering direction with business objectives, ensuring the company’s growth and success in delivering high-quality products and services to clients.

In this position, adaptability, strong communication skills, and a passion for both technology and people are essential. You’ll serve as a mentor to both managers and senior individual contributors, foster a culture of continuous improvement, and establish a high-performing, collaborative team environment. Additionally, you’ll play a critical role in representing engineering needs and achievements within leadership contexts, in client engagements, and in public forums, helping to reinforce Rare Days’ reputation as a leader in the creator economy.

Your Responsibilities

  • Drive the strategic vision for the engineering team’s operations, including establishing and optimizing processes, enhancing productivity, and aligning department goals with overall company objectives.
  • Manage client and stakeholder relationships through clear communication, setting expectations, and ensuring alignment between technical execution and business objectives.
  • Oversee recruitment, onboarding, and continuous growth of engineering talent to ensure a highly skilled and motivated team.
  • Partner with leadership to maintain strong team engagement and a collaborative company culture.
  • Step in to support project teams with hands-on guidance, particularly during critical project phases or high-stakes client interactions.

The Must-Have Shortlist
  • Experience in an agency or client services environment is required.
  • 10+ years of experience in software development, including 5+ years in engineering leadership roles with a track record of guiding teams through the end-to-end digital product lifecycle, from initial scoping to market launch.
  • Proven expertise in both frontend and backend technologies such as React/React Native, Node.JS, Rails, Go, or Python, with a solid understanding of full-stack development.
  • Skilled in communicating effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences, with confidence in presenting to executives, clients, and large groups.
  • Ability to create clear, concise documentation and architectural diagrams that reflect complex technical decisions for both internal and external audiences.
  • Strong ability to lead teams, particularly in distributed or nearshore environments, and to promote collaboration and knowledge-sharing across teams.
  • Experienced in scoping, estimating, writing, reviewing, and negotiating statements of work (SOWs), project scopes, and vendor deliverables.
  • Passion for developing talent, motivating teams, and supporting engineers to grow and achieve career success.

If you’re a leader who combines technical depth with a passion for building world-class engineering teams, we’d love to hear from you! Join us in creating innovative products that empower clients and deliver exceptional user experiences.
