Description

About Rare Days
We're a multi-disciplinary digital product agency obsessed with helping creators build lasting legacies. Since 2020, we've built products at the sweet spot where content meets commerce, empowering established creators and content-led businesses to transform their passion into sustainable success.

Our clients include world-renowned creators like Esther Perel, Dr. Becky, Colin & Samir, and Ryan Trahan, as well as organizations like Airbnb, Notion, and Ziff Davis. We specialize in community-first platforms, membership tools, and creator infrastructure — and we build with care, context, and a clear point of view.

We’re a fully remote team based in Canada and are open to candidates able to work within 4 hours of PST.

About the role
Our engineering leads are involved in projects from the very start—developing the product vision, defining the roadmap, and setting the contributing engineers up for success. To thrive in this role, you should be comfortable working directly with leadership, enjoy working with designers to translate visions into fluid mobile experiences, and exercise good judgment in technical decisions. As a lead, you’ll also mentor other developers and help us evolve our mobile processes.

If you’re passionate about building high-quality products in the creator space, and working with talented teams, then this could be the role for you. Come join us and be part of building the next generation of creators.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee mobile engineering architecture and development throughout any given project, making technical decisions regarding libraries, navigation strategies, and state management.
  • Lead client presentations and conversations about technical strategy, team health, and delivery milestones (including TestFlight demos and store releases).
  • Manage the App Store and Google Play Store submission processes, ensuring compliance with guidelines and smooth release cycles.
  • Coach and mentor other members of the technology team, specifically upgrading the team's mobile fluency.
  • Foster an open, collaborative, and inclusive environment where our teams are empowered to do their best work.
  • Help grow the Engineering team by participating in hiring interviews and regular code reviews, making suggestions for improvements to process and standards.
  • Identify the department’s opportunities for growth and help develop side-initiatives that enrich the company’s engineering practices.

What we’re looking for
  • You have 5+ years of engineering experience in an agency or product environment with 1+ years in a lead role.
  • Deep expertise in React Native: You understand the "bridge," threading models, and performance optimization techniques (e.g., preventing re-renders, optimizing list views).
  • Native Experience: You are not afraid to drop into native code. You have experience writing or debugging Swift/Objective-C (iOS) and Java/Kotlin (Android) to bridge native modules when necessary.
  • Production Experience: You have successfully deployed and maintained multiple apps in production on both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
  • Tooling Mastery: You are experienced with mobile CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Fastlane, Bitrise, EAS) and over-the-air updates (e.g., CodePush/EAS Update).
  • You can design and communicate strong technical solutions that our internal and client teams understand, and you know how to achieve compromise on business trade-offs and technical decisions.
  • You appreciate design and are able to protect its integrity without compromising fidelity or feasibility, with a strong grasp of iOS Human Interface Guidelines and Material Design.
  • You care about people and are motivated to help your team members achieve success on projects.
  • You’re adaptable and quick to embrace unexpected changes in direction.
